I gotta hand it to the Brits, this is an excellent idea: The New York Times reports Schools in England Introduce a New Subject: Mindfulness. Maybe they should include Parliament in the study to help with that whole Brexit mess!
Having just come off of the LAUSD Teachers Strike I can tell you my children’s stress level has been at the forefront of my mind. The two weeks leading up to the strike were the worst. I have eight year old twins and we did a lot of breathing exercises, validating their experiences and telling them everything was going to be ok. Of course a teachers strike is a glaring example of how kids experience stress and anxiety. But, think about all of the everyday distractions and worries that take their toll on focus and concentration. What a great way to start off the school day! Let’s get grounded and then start math. Both short term and long term implications are big. Imagine learning grounding techniques like you learn how to write your name. It becomes a habit. And as kids get older maybe there will be less intensive mental health needs for teenagers and young adults. Come on America! Where’s our government funded Mindfulness study?
